Date of Workaround Release :02-JUN-2005
Date of Resolved Release :02-Apr-2008

Systems with LP9000 series HBAs installed in a shared I/O assembly ... see below:

1. Impact

Systems with LP9000 series HBAs installed in a shared I/O assembly may experience a PCI SERR panic. If the system experiences a PCI SERR panic (that is not attributed to a hardware issue), it may be necessary to move any LP9000 cards to a PCI bus/leaf that does not contain cards that do 64 bit PIO.

2. Contributing Factors

This issue can occur on the following platforms:

  • Sun Fire V1280, Netra 1280, 2900, 4800, 4810, 4900, 6800, 6900 with PCI I/O assembly or IB_SSC I/O assembly

3. Symptoms

Should the described issue occur, the following panic error message is seen on the console and will be captured in "/var/adm/messages":

WARNING: pcisch0 (pci@1c,700000): PCI fault log start:

4. Workaround

If the system is seeing PCI SERR panics, (and you have determined that this is not a hardware issue) configure the I/O so the LP9000 does not share the PCI bus/leaf with any I/O cards that typically do 64-bit PIO, which are usually graphics cards.
